About

Dr Philippe Clarinval, DBA, MBA, is a senior executive, executive advisor, researcher, and educator specialising in strategic alignment, transformational leadership, and organisational performance. Over more than two decades in international executive leadership, Philippe has led organisations and teams across Europe, Asia, and the United States, including some of the world's most demanding luxury service environments. His experience ranges from leading smaller, highly entrepreneurial organisations to complex businesses operating within global corporate structures. This has given him a practitioner's understanding of a challenge common to organisations of every size: translating purpose and strategy into aligned leadership, culture, capabilities, and everyday execution. His expertise sits at the intersection of strategy, leadership, organisational culture, and human performance. He advises senior executives and organisations on strategic alignment, organisational transformation, leadership effectiveness, employee engagement, and building cultures that deliver sustainable performance. Philippe's perspective is grounded equally in research and practice. He holds a Doctor of Business Administration from the University of Liverpool, where his doctoral research examined how transformational and transactional leadership can strengthen strategic alignment in complex organisations. He also holds an MBA and has pursued executive education in leadership, strategy, neuroscience, coaching, and higher education at institutions including Oxford, Harvard, MIT, Cornell, and Cambridge. Throughout his career, Philippe has been particularly interested in the space where strategy succeeds or fails: between executive intention and organisational reality. His work explores how purpose, strategy, capabilities, organisational architecture, culture, and leadership behaviour must reinforce one another if organisations are to perform consistently. Having spent much of his career "in the trenches" of operational leadership, Philippe brings a pragmatic perspective to transformation. He believes organisations rarely lack strategies. More often, they struggle to create the alignment, leadership discipline, engagement, and collective ownership required to turn strategy into action. Alongside his executive responsibilities, Philippe advises senior leaders, teaches and speaks on leadership and strategic alignment, and contributes to the broader conversation on how organisations can combine performance, purpose, and humanity. His central conviction is simple: sustainable transformation happens when people understand not only what an organisation is trying to achieve, but why it matters, how they contribute, and how their collective efforts create something greater than the sum of its parts.

Company bio

Clarinval & Partners is an executive advisory firm helping leaders turn strategic ambition into organizational reality. We work with senior executives, leadership teams, boards, and organizations navigating transformation, growth, complexity, or change. Our expertise lies at the intersection of strategic alignment, transformational leadership, culture, and human performance. Our approach combines rigorous thinking with real-world executive experience. We have led organizations ourselves. We understand the pressure of making decisions with incomplete information, aligning diverse stakeholders, transforming established cultures, and delivering results while keeping people engaged. At the heart of our work is a simple conviction: strategy alone does not transform an organization. Alignment does. Purpose must connect with strategy. Strategy must be supported by the right capabilities. Structures and systems must enable rather than obstruct. Culture must reinforce the direction. And leaders must create the clarity, trust, accountability, and engagement that bring all of these elements together. Clarinval & Partners therefore goes beyond traditional consulting. We act as advisors, thought partners, and guides to leaders. We challenge assumptions, create perspective, and help translate complexity into meaningful action. Our ambition is not simply to make organizations more effective. It is to help build organizations where performance, purpose, and humanity reinforce one another — creating sustainable value for their people, their customers, and the communities they serve.
