“The most promising innovation I’ve seen this year is using AI to transform member onboarding within a risk-bearing provider organization,” Alvarez says.
Traditional onboarding processes often rely on broad communication strategies that treat all patients similarly. Alvarez believes AI creates an opportunity to identify individual needs earlier and connect people with the right resources from the beginning of their healthcare journey.

To Joel Kanter, President of Windy City, Inc., one of the most promising healthcare advances is a biotechnology innovation designed to help the body repair damaged lymphatic and vascular systems.
“There is a company based in the San Francisco Bay Area called Fibralign that has developed a collagen-based ‘device’ that was developed to help trigger re-growth of failed lymphatic and blood vessels in breast cancer mastectomy patients that end up with lymphedema as a result,” Kanter says.
Lymphedema—a condition in which fluid accumulates because of damage to the lymphatic system—is a common and often debilitating complication after cancer treatment. The National Cancer Institute recognizes lymphedema as a significant survivorship issue, particularly among patients treated for breast cancer.
“Several hundred patients have been treated thus far with the tremendous inflammation being reversed,” he says.
